Setting Sail

One of these is our sailboat out on Shawnee Mission Lake where you might find Jay and I on a sunny Sunday.

My new term as Ohev Sholom Sisterhood President begins in June; but, for all practical purposes, Naomi’s ship has returned to port after last week’s board meeting. I would like to thank her, all of the past presidents and their hard working crew for steering Sisterhood on its current energetic course. They have all done so much for Ohev Sholom and are my inspiration.

Now it is time to get all hands on deck, commission our calendar and map a course for the coming year - allowing the committees to work their magic. I’ve watched it on the periphery with admiration. I’m hoping I can grab the tiller and steer us to new adventures. As we get underway and learn to work together, let’s remember that getting there is part of the adventure, and though we may not always run at an even keel, we want to leave behind us a wake that future skippers can traverse.

First, let’s gather our navigation tools by researching ideas on the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism website: http://wlcj.org/.

Second, let’s share ideas for programs and fundraisers to sail toward by communicating with current Executive Board Members: Ruth Roth and Mary Birnbaum (Fundraising), Rita Brown and Lisa Litchman (Membership), Melanie Allmayer and Diane Maddix (Programming), Elaine Friedman (Recording Secretary), Mari Anne Birnbaum (Treasurer), Judy Hochman (Historian), Naomi Silverman (Counselor), and Sally Gordon (WLCJ Intracontinental Region Secretary).

Finally, let’s be a friend to Sisterhood on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/ohevsisterhood/ and have a common place to meet together so we can stay informed and share information.

I’m looking forward to our journey.

Shabbat Shalom,
Terri Herman
